Essential Oils

For a while now I have been working with, and using, Young Living Essential Oils and I am amazed at how effective, and beautiful they are. They are the number 1 producer of therapeutic and medicinal grade essential oils in the world.

Young Living was founded around 20 years ago and grew from one man’s passion to produce 100% pure essential oils. There are a lot of oils on the market and most of them are made from inferior plants or are synthetic. Gary Young however went on a hunt to find virgin land that had never been touch by chemicals, and planted wonderful farms all over the world.

These oils work on both the physical and emotional level and most are antiviral, antibacterial, antifungal, antimould, and even antitumoral.

A lot of people ask me how to use them so I have put together a list:

One of my absolute favourite ways is with the Aria Diffuser

It uses cold water diffusion to create a fine mist that wafts out of the opening and infuses the room with whichever oil you choose. It lights up and runs though a sequence of chimes and relaxation sounds, and has an iPod input! For a video on how all this works click here.

Another way to use them is in cooking – and you’ll see that there are plenty of herbal oils such as thyme, basil, sage, oregano, and clove as well as lemon, orange, tangerine and mint.

If i’m feeling exhausted, or have eaten a huge meal I like to put a drop of Peppermint in a glass of hot or cold water and drink it, or if i have a headache a drop of peppermint on the back of my neck relieves it quite quickly..

On a daily basis I tend to carry 5 or so in my handbag just in case :) These are:

  • Peppermint
  • Lemon
  • Rose
  • Lavender
  • En-R-Gee
  • And of course my Thieves Spray..

Thieves is a blend of Clove, Lemon, Cinnamon, Rosemary & Eucalyptus and has an interesting story.. Back in the days of the Bubonic Plague in France there were said to be 4 thieves who were stealing from the homes of the dead and dying.. The King was unable to understand how they were doing this and not getting sick so he demanded they be captured. It turned out they were from the apothecary and has discovered that if they covered themselves in cloaks and breathed through a mask covered in a formula containing the above, they would not get ill.. They were offered leniency in exchange for their recipe – and it is a recipe that has been proven to work today..

Many families use it in their diffuser to keep away colds and germs often picked up at school, and it is fabulous for sore throats. For information and research, as well as the other products in the range click here.

I am so fascinated about your blogs about essential oils. I like to learn more about great blends to gift friends. One of my favorites oils is vanilla. Do you have any great combinations? Please post more blogs about essential oils.

Hi! I’m so glad you are enjoying learning about essential oils. Vanilla is wonderful, and is in one of my favourite blends – Stress Away. It comes in a roll on and is a fabulous gift, and something I use instead of perfume. I will write a full blog about it as soon as I can, however if you have any questions let me know!

We haven’t ‘taken the plunge’ into essential oils yet, but I think my husband & I will be doing so soon. I would love a comparison of doterra and Yound Living! Thanks for the info : )

Hi, I so hope you do, they are just wonderful.. Young Living is wonderful and have their own farms and do a lot of research on the oils. Doterra trade off the success of Young Living. Young Living make sure every oil they sell is the purest, the first press. Doterra use the seconds and do not conduct test on quality. They smell different, and test different when looking at constituents.Young Living also have much greater business prospects if you wish to be involved in that side :) There is a PDF available that compares the two, I can’t find the name at present sorry! Feel free to ask any more questions :)
